Many people nowadays use computers on more or less as daily basis. Whether it is to do work, enjoy games or keep up to date on social network pages, IT is an important part to pretty much everyone’s lives. IT is in your home, your school and your place of work, with it being found in so many places, there needs to be people responsible for taking care of the systems. In offices and schools, it is not strange to see IT administrators, people whose Careers consist of taking care of the computers and networks in the building. If you have an interest in IT then becoming an administrator is the perfect starting point. These Career Choices are fairly common too as you can imagine, as said, more or less every business now has computer networks and require someone to look after it all.
To get the main idea of these Career Choices, we are going to be focussing on IT administration in a school, as normally these are excellent starting points for these types of Careers. There are numerous responsibilities in these Careers, but as you have likely noticed the most important duty is to setup and maintain the IT equipment. If something goes wrong you would have to investigate and take the best action, at times you may need to replace parts or reinstall software. Usually you’d be answering any questions the other members of staff have, assisting them with any IT problems. Of course as time goes on technology improves too, so it’s critical that you keep the systems up to date, installing any new software and making certain the security is robust.
In a school environment you may be tasked with a kind of security role too. The children certainly need supervision while using the computers, unfortunately a teacher can’t always see all of the screens to know what is happening. As an IT administrator you should have access to remote desktop control and viewing, to ensure that nobody is using the machines for non-work related purposes. It’s also crucial to keep the web filters up to date, non-work related websites have to be restricted access, not just to maintain productivity, but to also shelter the children from the many adult or sensitive subjects found on the internet.
As stated earlier, these New Careers provide a great entry point for any IT career. Usually the requirements for the position are moderately low and so can make them less difficult to obtain. It’s worthwhile to remain in a position like this for a while to build your familiarity and then you can decide to move into something more challenging. Of course if you wanted you might just stay in the job too, it’s not necessary to look for New Careers, after all if you are pleased with the job then keep at it. Though if you are wanting to continue your development then these Careers will provide a fine way of learning new things and help you get used to working with large networks. If you’re interested in trying out one of these Career Choices then try sending CV’s and covering letters to a selection of schools and small offices, there’s bound to be something on offer.
