It may seem odd to you that I talk about shapewear as much as I do. This is a very long story. So stay right where you are.

I, like most women around the world, love Oprah. Who doesn’t? A down and out woman rises to fame to go on and conquer TV becoming one of the most richest people in the world. It’s only reasonable that an ‘overweight’ woman that ‘decided’ she would conquer the world and did conquer the world (quite literally) would become an American Icon.

So I was a slightly overweight child. OK I wasn’t like massive, I just felt insecure when the other one-hundred pound girls pranced around in tiny clothes and obsessed over their .25 pound weight gain. So naturally I didn’t frequent the popular teenage spots that most young people frequent, namely malls, swimming pools, school dances and other social situations which necessitated cute, tiny clothes. I pretty much ducked out of all social situations that required me to wear form fitting clothes.

So when everyone was out being young and restless, I was sitting at home and watching reruns of Oprah on the local tv station. Let me tell you- I loved Oprah.

So you can imagine my surprise, excitement and utter exclamation of ‘Hail Mary’ when one day in my mid-twenties I catch an episode of this woman named Sara on Oprah’s show! . She’s talking about footless pantyhose, slimming apparel, and much more. So I Google her. And I find the answer to everything I’ve ever wanted- Full Figure Shapewear! I feel like I’ve discovered gold! As my fingers speed across the keyboard searching for more information on shapewear, body shapers and more I learn that shapewear is not a new phenomenon-it’s been around since the 18th century. In the 18th century slimming apparel was called the foundation garment and was worn under long dresses. Basically the corsets and the brassieres of the 18th century are comparable to today’s firm shapewear. With the grace of God, today’s shapewear is so much more comfortable that brassieres and corsets were. In fact, contrary to popular perception, when I wear Firm Shapewear I don’t feel constricted at all. In truth,I feel free. My posture improved, I was able to go on dates without worrying about bumps sticking out in the wrong places, wear white pants, and look pretty great in just about anything.

And you wouldn’t believe, once I got my confidence, I began to want to look EVEN better. So basically, once I started wearing firm Shapewear, I began to want to push my body to improve. I started going to the gym instead of eating out at lunch. I learned the power of eating healthy, because I had come to respect my body. I quit drinking. I stopped inhaling smoke. All I needed was that feeling of ‘not worrying’ constantly about my weight. Slimming Apparel did that for me. Once I was comfortable in my clothes I was able to completely transform my lifestyle.

It’s been argues that it wasn’t shapewear, but my love of Oprah’s show that transformed my life. Since I may never had taken to slimming apparel had it not been for that awesome Oprah episode.

So tell me. What do you think?
